c 1999 Alabaster Praise 11. Resting in the Calm 4:21
Resting in the Calm: I has a very close friend was attacked and severely beaten in her house, some years ago. I was overwhelmed with total helplessness at the time, with no way to effectively make things better. I sat down one evening and wrote out the words that soon became this song. Because of my deep feelings, the words flowed purely. It was as if I was writing as fast as I could to keep up. I had no answers or explanations, but I knew someone who did. I tried to imagine the heart of Jesus as one of His loved ones is hurt. I was riveted with an illustration of a parent bird kicking a baby bird out of the nest for the first time, so it could learn to fly. The song more than any that I have written catches a slight glimpse of the love of God. It was only as I became a Dad, myself that I really understood. |
